Tools to Track ChatGPT Ads and Sponsored Placements: Ad Monitoring and Advertising Intelligence 2026

ChatGPT ad tracking tools ranked by how far they get you past the capture: diagnosis against organic visibility, a fix you can ship, and a check that it worked.

Every tool that tracks ChatGPT ads in 2026 starts the same way: run prompts, capture the sponsored unit under the answer, store it. Advertising intelligence is what happens after the capture. This site ranks tools that act, so this list is ordered by how far each tool carries you through four steps: monitor the placements, diagnose what they mean for your brand, act on it, and verify the result. The wider agentic catalog is on our rankings page.

Why capture alone is not intelligence

OpenAI's ads are placed by relevance to the conversation plus the advertiser's bid, and they sit in a labeled unit below the answer (Ads in ChatGPT). Advertisers get their own reporting through Ads Manager and an Advertiser API, but nothing about anyone else's campaigns. OpenAI has not described a public ad library.

So a tracker gives you a log: on this prompt, on this day, this advertiser showed this copy pointing to this URL. Useful. But the decision you actually face is never "a rival is advertising." It is "a rival is advertising on a prompt where the answer cites us, or ignores us, and what should we do about it." That requires the organic answer next to the ad, and a way to change it.

The ranking

1. Promptwatch: all four steps

Monitor. Promptwatch Ads Radar extracts sponsored ads from responses to your tracked prompts in ChatGPT Search, Google AI Overviews, and Google AI Mode. Each record holds advertiser, domain, title, description, image or price, target URL, model, date, and the triggering prompt (Ads Radar docs). Views include ads per day stacked by top advertisers, a top advertisers list, a per-ad view, and a per-prompt view. The same data is in REST API v2 and the MCP server, so an agent can pull new advertiser domains each morning.

Diagnose. The per-prompt view puts ad count next to your own average visibility on that prompt. Each captured response has separate Ads and Citations tabs, so you see who paid and who got cited in one place. Agent Analytics adds the crawler side: did ChatGPT's bots fetch the page you want cited, and did the fetch fail?

Act. The Content Agent turns visibility gaps into drafts and publishes to WordPress, Webflow, or Framer after a person approves them in the review inbox. On a prompt where a rival advertises and you have no citation, that is the direct counter.

Verify. Daily prompt refresh shows whether your visibility moved. Visitor analytics shows whether AI-referred sessions to the new page arrived and converted.

Plan note: Ads Radar is on Business ($579/mo) and every agency plan (from $199/mo). Essential ($95) and Professional ($245) show sample data behind an upgrade prompt, per llms.txt on 2026-10-21. Coverage does not include Perplexity, and your own OpenAI campaign metrics stay in Ads Manager.

2. Gauge: monitor and act, lighter on diagnosis

Gauge lists ChatGPT Ads tracking with six engines and a content engine, from $599/mo. Its ChatGPT ads feature page describes connecting your OpenAI Ads account for spend, impressions, clicks, CTR, and CPC, and showing competitor placements with observed frequency. That paid-plus-observed view is a genuine plus. Our catalog lists no crawler logs or visitor analytics for Gauge, so the diagnose and verify steps rely on other tools.

3. Adthena: deep monitoring, paid layer only

Adthena is a search-ads intelligence company, not in our catalog. Its ChatGPT ads product says it monitors more than 300,000 prompts daily, with an ad library, a competitor tracker, prompt discovery, and MCP and API access. It publishes a 21-day free trial but no price. For a paid media team, that scale of competitor ad monitoring is the selling point. It has no organic visibility, citation, or content layer, so it covers the first step very well and stops there.

4. LLM Pulse: budget monitoring

LLM Pulse lists "AI ads tracking" among its features, alongside sentiment, citations, and AI traffic analytics. Pricing starts at €49/mo, though our catalog entry does not say which plan includes ads tracking. Default cadence is weekly, with daily costing more. For spotting which advertisers show up on a small prompt set, it is affordable. For catching a new campaign in its first days, weekly is slow.

Not ad trackers (as documented)

AthenaHQ, Scrunch, and Profound are strong on organic visibility, but none of their catalog entries document a ChatGPT ads feature. If you already use one, pair it with an ad tracker rather than assuming coverage. Ask the vendor directly.

How to evaluate any tool on this list

Run one test before buying. Pick five prompts where you know rivals advertise. Ask the vendor to show:

  1. The captured ads on those prompts, with landing URLs and dates.
  2. Your organic position and the cited pages on the same answers.
  3. What the tool lets you do next: draft a page, open a task, push to a CMS.
  4. How you would see, a week later, whether that action changed anything.

A tool that handles point one and nothing else is an ad tracker. Useful for a paid media team. A tool that handles all four is the one that turns sponsored placements into a reason to act.

Two scope checks round it out. Which countries do monitors run from, given that OpenAI targets campaigns by country (targeting docs)? And does the tool count product-feed ads as one placement or as multiple product cards, since OpenAI reports card impressions separately?

Verdict

For advertising intelligence that ends in an action, Promptwatch leads because the ad log, the organic answer, the crawler logs, and the content pipeline live in one workspace. Gauge is the closest alternative if your priority is pairing your own OpenAI Ads metrics with competitor sightings. Adthena wins on pure paid-media monitoring scale. Start with the test above on your own prompts.
